The Role

We are looking for an experienced Project Commercial Manager to play a key role within our project team by undertaking all commercial management services throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties will include:

  • Implementing effective post-contract commercial management services aimed at maintaining effective cost control and positive cashflow throughout the duration of the project.
  • Undertaking all relevant commercial management duties in conformance with policies and procedures, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Managing the application for payment and invoicing processes.
  • Coordinating and analysing all relevant commercial data for the monthly reporting cycle and to provide accurate cost data in support of project forecasts and annual budget reviews.
  • Working with the project team in managing the cost impact and validation of change/compensation events and encouraging the whole delivery team to strive to deliver value for money.
  • Post-contract management through to settlement of final accounts and internal reconciliations to facilitate project close out in line with project budgets and project plan.
  • Providing clear cost and contractual advice and maintaining a close working relationship with all parties in the Design Joint Venture management team, throughout the project life cycle.
  • Analysing cost performance data and providing relevant input for monthly performance reports.
  • Coordinating with and supporting the project controls team.
  • Establishing and implementing appropriate commercial strategies including effective project cost management, change management, risk and KPI management.
  • Managing all commercial correspondence and contractual notices issued in accordance with contractual conditions.
  • Identifying emerging problems, reporting contractual claims and supporting in the management and resolution of legal and/or commercial disputes in conjunction with senior management

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in high value civil engineering, building, M&E, rail or general construction projects.
  • Main contractor or alliance experience.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and/or professional qualification.
  • Relevant experience in all aspects of post-contract commercial management on major infrastructure related projects
  • Broad experience in the commercial management of projects and implementing effective cost control processes.
  • Specific knowledge and experience of post-contract commercial services including those related to reporting, payment, variations, change and claims management and final account settlement.
  • An understanding of change, risk and contingency management processes.
  • Specific understanding of railway and construction industry contracts, ideally NEC3 standard forms.   
  • Experience of resolution of construction contract disputes,
  • Strong client facing skills.
  • Excellent commercial acumen.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
