The Challenge

Royal Ordnance Factory, Bishopton

We were appointed by BAE Systems to provide traffic and highways advice in support of the redevelopment of the Royal Ordnance Factory site at Bishopton. The site is of strategic significance in the context of the Glasgow and Clyde Valley region and is the largest brownfield site in Scotland. Working with the Design Team, SYSTRA contributed to the design of a masterplan to facilitate redevelopment that includes approximately 2,500 residential units, 130,000sqm of employment land, a new school and community facilities.

SYSTRA's Role

To date we have developed a range of potential access strategies, assessing them using the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) Parts 1 and 2, prepared a Transport Assessment for the outline consent to assess the final access strategy for the Masterplan (including a micro-simulation model of the road network), developed the Public Transport Strategy (that includes major upgrades to the existing Park & Ride) to support the Masterplan, prepared road construction consent drawings and carried site supervision of the construction of the Northern Access Road and off-site improvements and prepared the Transport Assessment in support of the new Village Centre development for a major foodstore, housing, health centre and park & ride extension.
