The Challenge

Ostlänken project is part of Travikverket's overall target to connect faster Sweden's three main cities (Stockholm, Göteborg and Mälmo) both for passengers and freight. It is part of the first implementation of high speed (320km/h) in Sweden. “Ostlänken 3“is a 70km stretch from Stavsjö to Sillekrog including 4 Railway Plans and a 15km single track part along NykÖping train station. The preliminary design phase involves a broad set of technical areas such as environmental, geotechnical and water studies, track and alignment, signalling (ERTMS 2), telecoms, catenary and power supply or landscape integration.

SYSTRA's Role

Since 2015 and as part of the COWI JV, SYSTRA has responsibility for Project Management, Track alignment, Catenary, Signalling, Power Supply, Telecoms and RAMs.

Project deliverables are produced, managed and delivered within a CDE using Projectwise for the control of the PIM in accordance with the clients BIM requirements. SYSTRA are using Bentley/Autodesk software within the CDE with innovative use of the Bentley Systems Promis-E application for production of the signalling, telecoms, and cabling designs. SYSTRA has a great deal of relevant experience to offer a country that is currently developing its high-speed standards. Ostlänken will also be built with slab track, SYSTRA will be involved with this through its sub consultant, Obermeyer.
