The Role

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join our growing engineering team in Birmingham. If you are a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play a part in growing a dynamic high performance team then we want to hear from you.

The Design Manager will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated civil engineering work packages, ensuring:

  • Establishment and implementation of the Project Plan for allocated work packages
  • Establishment and maintenance of forecasts, cost and revenue budgets
  • Management and documentation of all fee, programme and scope changes
  • Delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the client’s specifications
  • Co-ordination between design and construction teams to ensure timely flow of design information
  • Implementation of systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Monitoring of the progress of design development against programme and budgets
  • Implementation of effective, value for money and innovative design delivery solutions to meet project requirements

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Degree qualified or similar experience based
  • BEng/MEng degree in Engineering (or similar)
  • Previous experience in design delivery of major multi-disciplinary infrastructure programmes
  • Experience of cost programme and quality management of major multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
  • Experience in Co-ordination and management of overseas multi-disciplinary design delivery teams
  • Business development and client relationship management experience
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • The ability to lead design teams.
  • Experience in the use of project management and project planning software design packages
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Previous experience of working with, Eurocodes, British Standards, Technical Specification for Interoperability, Railway Standards and knowledge of guidance available from industry research bodies such as CIRIA, Concrete Council etc
