Operational & Lifecycle Carbon
Accurate and robust modelling of the base carbon emissions and the likely impacts of the schemes and initiatives in terms of behavioural change, fleet mix and transport network performance is a critical element of all Net Zero carbon strategies to ensure that the aims and objectives are achieved.
SYSTRA have developed a number of tools and methods to provide detailed predictions of the transport carbon emissions at any spatial scale including our Carbon Skimming Tool which utilises standard demand and routing patterns , outputs from our Fleet Mix Modelling Tool and environmental factors from our inhouse Environmental Emissions Modelling Tool (ENEVAL) to answer critical questions some of which are not covered by existing carbon Modelling software such as:
- How much carbon does transport emit
- What vehicle types are responsible for emitting most Carbon
- Which origins and destinations are responsible for most carbon emissions (zones / LA’s etc)
- What are the contributions of policies and measures towards reducing transport carbon emissions and achieving Net Zero.
The model outputs are produced numerically and graphically in GIS and allow the development of measures to achieve NET Zero to be focused on the vehicles and locations that will result in the greatest reductions in Carbon Emissions thus providing the highest levels of Climate Emergency benefits.
SYSTRA have also demonstrable experience of managing and implementing low-carbon and carbon neutral methods across the whole life cycle of engineering infrastructure assets in a range of different industry sectors. In order to facilitate the specification of carbon neutral or low-carbon methods on projects we ensure that the principles of eco-design are enacted throughout our business. These principles ensure that we carry out low carbon projects that offer solutions that are also resilient to the demands of climate change, preserve biodiversity and enhances energy efficiency.
