Accessibility & Inclusive Design
SYSTRA provide access and inclusive design advice for a wide range of private and public sector clients. We ensure that inclusive design is embedded into design development in order to accommodate a diverse range of users.
An important element of our work is engaging with a wide range of local access groups and charities to gain feedback on design proposals. We use a joined up approach that considers the wider connectivity of developments with local transport services and community facilities.
The principles of inclusive design are underpinned by the social model of disability, which supports the view that it is the attitude of society at large, and organisational and environmental structures, that restrict an individual’s participation in mainstream activities.
The solution to this problem is, in part, to change the environment, to remove the barriers to full participation and ensure new developments are designed inclusively from the outset to ensure that they can be used safely, easily and with dignity by all.
