Resignalling and Recontrol Project
North Linconlshire, Level Crossings, Civils
The Port of Immingham’s rail network experiences more than 260 freight movements per week. As the demand for freight was forecast to increase, the rail network in the Grimsby/Immingham area was resignalled to facilitate anticipated future growth.
PROJECT SCOPE AND DELIVERY
As part of the North Lincolnshire Resignalling and Recontrol Project, 16 level crossings were upgraded. These comprised 14 Manually Controlled Crossings with Obstacle Detection (MCB-OD), 1 Automatic Barrier Crossing Locally Monitored (ABCL) and 1 On-Call Barrier Crossing. Of the MCB-OD crossings, 5no. were in close proximity to each other in the centre of Grimsby.
Network Rail appointed SYSTRA to deliver Approval in Principle (AIP) Ground Plans, Consultation Plans, Approved For Construction (AFC) Ground Plans, Setting Out Drawings and Draft Level Crossing Orders for all 16 crossings. In addition, we were responsible for the civils foundation designs for all the level crossing equipment and prepared highway designs to accommodate the requirements of the Obstacle Detection equipment. SYSTRA delivered all the Level Crossing Ground Plans to the client’s satisfaction and the level crossings were commissioned on schedule.
