Mobility as a Service (MaaS): Navigogo
SYSTRA was delighted to have been involved in one of the first and most well-known MaaS pilot programmes (the first in Scotland), through our involvement in the NaviGoGo project. The research and development project sought to develop a MaaS product for young people (16-25) in Dundee and North Fife. Supported by Innovate UK End to End Journey funding, a consortium led by ESP Group (a transport technology supplier) with the assistance of Young Scot (young people’s national advocacy charity), Scottish National Entitlement Card, Route Monkey (algorithm developers), Mudlark (gamification specialists) and SYSTRA delivered this highly successful pilot project.
The co-designed offering enabled and encouraged young people to use a portfolio of travel options to meet their day to day travel needs, allowing young people aged 16-25 to find, book and pay for the fastest and cheapest transport using the NaviGoGo web app, including a deal matcher for matching people to relevant deals and discounts. The pilot service allowed young people to directly book trains and taxis and provided information such as the fare and change required for buses and availability of car clubs. Healthy options such as cycling and walking were also included in journey planning and there was a forum for users to share comments and feedback on transport options. NaviGoGo also boasted innovative features such as a taxi fare splitting calculator, destination and transport reviews and Incentive points for positive/sustainable travel choices.
Several co-design techniques were used, such as stakeholder mapping, engaging 50 extra young people in focus groups and conducting a survey which had responses from over 500 young people. Participants were surveyed at the beginning and end of the trial to provide insight on how NaviGoGo impacted their travel and how the service could be improved for future users.
During the trial, the 98 trial participants used the NaviGoGo service to plan over 2,000 journeys with more than 480 journeys booked and paid for using their NaviGoGo stored account balance.
