Goldsworth Road, Woking
SYSTRA was commissioned by EcoWorld International in 2018 for transport and highways input to support a planning application relating to the high-rise development proposals along Goldsworth Road, Woking. The development proposals incorporate demolition of existing buildings, construction of a phased, mixed-use development comprising circa 1,000 residential units, over 2,000 sqm of ground floor retail / commercial space, policy compliant parking provision and a homeless shelter, alongside a series of high quality public realm and pedestrian environment improvement works. Part of Goldsworth Road is also proposed to be pedestrianised.
The Site is situated in a sustainable and accessible location within the centre of Woking, and has strong connections by foot, cycle and public transport, providing access to a variety of local facilities and amenities.
SYSTRA produced a Transport Assessment to assess the traffic impacts of the proposed development. This included a multi-modal trip generation exercise followed by traffic modelling using Surrey County Council’s Paramics model, incorporating the pedestrianisation proposals.
SYSTRA also prepared a Framework Travel Plan, setting out a bespoke package of measures to be introduced, including the appointment of a Travel Plan Co-ordinator, provision of sustainable travel information, cycle parking, public realm improvements, organisation of resident Welcome Packs and marketing and promotion of travel events.
The planning application was submitted to Woking Borough Council, undergoing an extensive public consultation process including three presentations to the Design for the South East panel, before proceeding to a special planning committee in January 2021.
