Cricklewood

Cricklewood

As part of the GRIP 5 design works for phase 2 of the Cricklewood Depot project, a high level carbon assessment was undertaken to determine the carbon footprint of the materials that would be used to construct the new sidings.

The assessment looked at all of the materials that would be used during the construction of the sidings, including individual sleepers, volume of ballast, length of rail, concrete troughing, GRP drainage and steel OLE lighting columns.

Once the volumes of the materials used was known, the carbon footprint of the materials used could be determined using figures obtained from DEFRA.

This exercise was the first of its kind undertaken by SYSTRA and has enabled our client, Carillion, to better understand the carbon impacts of their projects.
