Transport planning

Planning is essential for the improvement or development of transport networks. Our transport planners have produced local, regional and national transport plans for cities and governments throughout the world.

We offer informed strategic advice. Our knowledge and experience allows us to make in-depth, objective and trusted judgements. We are asked to advise governments and the transport industry throughout the world on strategic infrastructure investments.

We have developed transport plans for Belgrade and Teheran; re-organised the urban transport network in Toulouse and Bordeaux; designed transport systems in Shanghai and Cairo; built traffic models for Nancy and Le Harve; and have planned the public consultation programme for London’s Crossrail.

Railway systems engineering


The skill of building a modern railway rests with integrating many engineering disciplines. It encompasses civil, electrical and software engineering for communications & signalling systems.

Our design engineers use industry standard software packages such as SYSPOWER for calculating train operation, power traction and harmonics; INRAIL and SOFTLINE for track routing and AUTOCAD for assisted design. Furthermore, we have developed our own software, for example RAILSIM, created to coordinate operating schedules and AD/DC power capacity.

For over 50-years we have been designing and overseeing the construction of high-quality, safe and affordable transport infrastructure, including tunnels, bridges and viaducts, throughout the world. From high-speed rail projects in the UK, France and China to urban transit schemes in Copenhagen, Dubai and Shenzhen. SYSTRA’s first hand experience of design and construction has been key to the success of these exceptional projects.
